Local Attractions

Minden, a hidden gem of Northwestern Louisiana boasts several old fashioned charms which begin with a high quality of life, family values and outdoor recreation. Stroll down Main Street and tiptoe into the quaint history of our city. You will find reasonably priced accommodations and unique shopping experiences.

Visit Lake Bistineau if you are fishing for largemouth bass, or if you are in the mood for an outdoor adventure. Bistaneau State Park rents furnished cabins and watercrafts. It is a perfect place to fish, water-ski or just relax in the pristine wilderness of Louisiana.

If you have a hankering for some history, you may want to visit Germantown Colony, one of our nation’s early Utopian societies, established in 1835 by religious dignitary, Count Leon, from Germany.

Drive into Minden’s Historic Downtown Business District and immediately you will step back in time to the delightfully preserved Minden Main Street, paved with bricks laid in 1917. The historic downtown structures, many of them dating to the turn of the century, house shops that range from artistic to utilitarian. Visitors can break from shopping to browse at our many antique, art and specialty shops, enjoy one of our several downtown food venues, or stop into our parish museum.
