Bring your kayak, canoe, or pirogue for an adventure down Bayou Dorcheat or rent a kayak from Dorcheat Bayou Rentals! On this 6 mile paddle between Dixie Inn and Sibley, you’ll discover beautiful cypress trees, a retired train trestle and sand banks to stop for selfies and resting. Whether you’re a frequent paddler or just getting into the sport, we’d love to invite you to relax, explore and make new friends!
Check in begins at 8:00 AM, safety instructions at 8:30 AM and we launch at 9:00 AM. A shuttle will be provided to assist paddlers getting to and from their vehicles.
**Please arrive by 8:00 AM if you would like to use the shuttle to drop off your vehicle at the end of the route.
Stick around after the paddle for a fish fry, refreshments and live entertainment!
*This could be your next day trip or staycation! We are located just 28 miles east of Shreveport and 72 miles west of Monroe.
*Please mark this event as GOING on Facebook if you plan to attend.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PADDLE:
– Meet at 160 Dorcheat St. Minden, LA at 8:00 AM to check in and drop off your boat. *This is also where you will receive your meal pass for after the paddle.
– Next you will drive your vehicle to 304-101 Dorcheat Bridge Rd, Doyline, LA 71023 which is the end of the route. You will leave your vehicle here so that by the end of the paddle, you have means to load up your boat and leave when you’re ready.
-There will be a shuttle bus waiting for you to bring you back to the launch site. We will do this until 8:45 AM. If you don’t make it to the launch site before the paddle in enough time to utilize the shuttle, the buses will also be available after the paddle to bring YOU back to your vehicle. It will not be transporting your boat. You will have to come back for it.
-With so many folks attending, we will likely send groups of 30 to launch at a time. Guides from the Bayou Chapter of the Ozark Society will be with each group.
-Please remember to bring your life vest, signaling whistle and drinking water. Feel free to bring your own snacks and refreshments for the paddle, but please remember to keep up with your trash.
-After the paddle we invite everyone to stick around for lunch and refreshments. I would encourage you to bring a chair (you can leave it in your vehicle) if you plan to stick around as there is only one picnic bench out there.
-All in all we are looking to have a good time and are very excited to host you!
